Don't get me wrong, I am a patriot when it comes to backing South Africa and will always back the boys with my heart. But if I have to gamble with my head then I don't see on balance of probability how the side last night can win the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The squad
Graeme Smith (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras, capt)
Hashim Amla (Nashua Dolphins)
Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors)
AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans)
JP Duminy (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras)
Faf du Plessis (Nashua Titans)
Colin Ingram (Chevrolet Warriors)
Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors)
Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans)
Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors)
Robbie Peterson (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras)
Dale Steyn (Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras)
Imran Tahir (Nashua Dolphins)
Lonwabo Tsotsobe (Chevrolet Warriors)
Morne van Wyk (Chevrolet Knights)
Explain to me then the following: Why has Miller been a regular selection over the last few months only to be pipped by du Plessis at the announcement? I get that Tahirs selection was dependant on some regulatory issues but still he has only just made it into the side and suddenly he is walking into the world cup touring squad without really being part of the squad mentality.
Robin Peterson doesn't really bat or bowl (statistically at least) and yet he's in there? Do you want a good pace bowler or an average spinner in the side?
Why I think I Australia will win
Australia have had their ups and downs (more downs) in the last few months but unlike a series where an individual can stick their hand up, World Cups tend to be won by experienced sides with cool heads. You are looking for players who have been there and done that and seen a lot of different cricket.
The South Africans (and their fans) are largely indifferent to the last two narrow ODI losses against India, but if they were world cup games and we slipped like that it could be a catastrophe.
We quickly forget that Australia are masters at preparing for these kind of competitions and the fact that they have won this tournament consistently.
They have not gone in focused on having a spin attack but rather picking the best players in their positions and sticking to their strengths.
Shane Watson, Brad Haddin, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, David Hussey and Brett Lee... You cant' fault the experience in that side.
Anyway it should be an absolute blast and if you have not yet opened an account to punt on the World Cup then click HERE and get your bets in!

Hi Dean,
I’m writing on behalf of the Managing Editor of CricketCountry, which is a joint venture portal of the Zee Group and an American media giant. Our cricket vertical has lots of cricketers writing for us, besides established writers. However, we are also giving space for bloggers and others who would like to share their views and/or blog on cricket.
Would you be interested in posting your writings on our website? If you do wish to share, kindly let me know. We are not paying fan bloggers for non-exclusive articles, but what we would undoubtedly give them is instant recognition on a big platform alongside big names - something that is not possible as a stand-alone blogger or merely commenting on social media like Facebook and Twitter. Moreover, we intend leverage the written stuff across social media platforms. And that means getting your writings across to much bigger audience and
thus getting new readers to your blog – if you are a blogger.
If we find that any blogger is writing insightfully and is drawing a huge following, we could then commission him/her to write exclusive articles for which they would be paid.
Do let me know your thoughts.
Cheers,
Devarchit Varma
