Two match ups in the IPL on Sunday

The Deccan Chargers take on the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League today and this is followed up by Chennai vs Kings XI Punjab.

SA vs England - 4th ODI

England have blown very hot and cold in this series so far - as to I guess have the Proteas.

We were dominant at Newlands (which is becoming something of a fortress for us) but when we played at Centurion (which should have suited our attack) we found ourselves short of runs.

On Sunday we take on the English in the fourth ODI and I expect South Africa to hit their straps now that they have had a couple of games to start building up their momentum and form.

I'd expect us to win it quite comfortably.

The bets I have taken:

• AB De Villiers - top SA batsman
• Morgan - top English batsman
• SA to win

Hhhhmmmm

It was something I warned about at the start of the tour and it looks like its my concerns were justified...

Injuries are mounting in the SA camp - although surprisingly it seems to be the batters and not the bowlers who are picking up the knocks at the moment - and this poses a problem over the next three months.

Graeme Smith and Mark Boucher have now had their tours cut short while Jacques Kallis and Vaughn Van Jaarsveld are nursing strains. AB DeVilliers is also probably still feeling a little tender after the blow he took recently.

There's a lot of HARD cricket still to be played and squad depth is going to become increasingly important - which was why I argued that Makhaya Ntini and Dale Steyn shouldn't be bowling in all these games and Kallis shouldering a major batting and bowling role for EVERY game...

The last thing SA can afford is to see the likes of Ntini, Steyn, Kallis or Morne Morkel not available for the home leg of the test series....

AB ala Jonty

One of my oldest cricketing memories is the image of a very young Jonty Rhodes making that famous diving run out of Inzamam Ul-Haq, when South Africa played in their first ever cricket world cup.

For those who don't remember, Inzy (who will never be remembered for his great running between the wickets) thought about a risky single just behind backward point. His partner at the time turned him back - a bit like turning the Titanic? - when he realised that Rhodes had fielded the ball.

Jonty realising that no keeper had come up to the stumps picked up the ball and took Inzy on in a flat out sprint before diving in and breaking the wickets....

... aaaaaaahhhh what history!

Last night in the South Africa vs. Bangladesh game, we had another fantastic piece of fielding. Johan Botha came charging in to take a catch which fell just in front of him. He recovered extremely quickly and fired the ball in to AB De Villiers who was keeping wicket and De Villiers made his own diving run out.

A great bit of cricket !
