Test cricket is a result oriented discipline!

Sorry I meant to blog about this earlier and Ian's post on The Baggy Green blog reminded me....

While I appreciate that the last two English batters had to bat out the overs and find any excuse to waste time, I wonder a bit of the umpires and match referee erred by not giving Australia every opportunity to force a result from the game.

It rained on the second day of the test matc hand about two hours were lost... In hindsight could have made the difference between a win and a draw....

Surely the match referee could have pushed for an earlier start on the final day? We mustn't lose sight of the fact that Test cricket must remain a result driven discipline. It cannot allow games to drift off into mediocrity because while the English performance was brave and exciting to watch, a draw in the test records is uneventful....

I am not sure if that is a particularly strong argument based on this Test. The last pair saw out 11.3 overs. Surely, Australia could have bowled them out, if they could. England were 70/5 after 26.3 overs. Surely, time was not a factor.

Not sure I agree with you - from the moment time was lost, the umpires should have been making an effort to make up the time.

Every opportunity should have been given to both sides to produce a result from the match.

Well it could've gone either way. There was only 10 mins left to the game. If Australia did get them out, it would've taken about 2 overs of time for them to change and get back on the field. I understand Marc's reasoning though. I feel like they should've given both teams the complete time because there was time lost during the ridiculous "glove change" by Anderson. His reasoning was that water fell on his gloves and they were wet. yeah! good one! anderson! douche bag! Physio also showed up a bunch of times. The last time he was there was absolutely no reason at all. It helped England but not Australia. Overall, the draw did make me a bit more interested in the series. Lords is a good venue for Australia. England will have their hands full.

It seems Freddy Flintoff is injured and Harmison is in, which I wasn't surprised about.

Due to the time lost during the rain interruption on day 4. I think an extra half an hour would've made sense.

Yes... I think the top order batters around the world would have been impressed with the lavish care and attention poured onto Jimmy Anderson....

England cricketer should not have shown a draw tending attitude in the ending of match.
