What the hell was Mickey Arthur thinking when he decided to open with Morne Morkel?!
Don't get me wrong - there's nothing to be faulted with a bit of experimentation from time to time, but seriously Morkel coming in with such a big total to chase doesn't make sense.
A pinch hitter from time to time might work, but not in this case - he should rather have stuck with the tried and tested and let them work their way through...
Dunno - thoughts? Comments? Criticisms?

Well it was definitely a mistake on Arthur's part, to send him up the order. I guess they were looking for some aggression and some quick runs from Morkel, to throw off the Aussies.
It would've been okay if it was a 20/20 but I don't see him opening in a TEST match. ever.
Haven't seen SA made too many mistakes in this series. so no criticism here, just an experiment gone wrong.
Maybe the criticism was a bit harsh but somebody like Boucher might have made more sense.
I think Boucher could have made it very interesting if he had:
A) Stuck out those few overs and then batted into the next morning
B) Got his eye in and been scoring quickly.
Oh well - hindsight is 20/20 ... scuse the pun
Yes, Boucher could've been a good choice to open but I think with Smith gone, they were looking for, some sort of a nightwatchmen, who can bat out the evening and play a few shots on the next day.
If Boucher would've lost his wicket that evening, things would've looked even tougher for the SAs. I guess it was more of a mind set thing maybe.
Great series though, no doubt there.
